DEADMAN
I painted this penciled piece from two years ago and Really like how it came out. I would still like to push the values in the lower half, but maybe not…
HEROESCON
The show was great! My best Heroes ever, but it was odd. It felt slow and kinda empty despite the apparent record attendance and my high sale marks. Also, for the first time, I had zero commissions at the show. I had three preshow commissions but I have never had zero commissions at the table at a show. These being the high dollar mark item at my table I was also surprised to have such a good show with none. Interesting.
Here is my haul from the show
Couple of shout-outs.
Tyler came by the booth again, we first met last year and he asked for a commission of himself as a character in my Fear Hunters universe. This year he asked for the same in my Cyber League Universe. He also walked away with the cover of the Fear Hunters trade. I was very happy to see it go home to a big fan of my work. Great to see you again Tyler, see you again next year!
I first met Andrew at MomoCon, we did a panel together on making a difference in comics. Andrew wrote the critically acclaimed March. We had a grand ole time chatting at the after party and he mentioned his newest project Islands in the Sky, an anthology to benefit survivors from the devastation of Hurricane Helene.
He is close to his goal on Kickstarter. I just backed it and so should you. Here.
Project: DRILL
I wrapped everything on this project but the cover. Finalizing that right now. Here’s some interior art.
TEST PAGES
I just did test pages for a cool project from my agent. It is confidential so I cant share, but I hope to get it and have news to share with you soon!
On the bright side! I cracked open my sketchbook and frantically filled pages with concept art. Again, I can’t share but it was very invigorating.
JOSEPH
I have 5 illustrations left in the Joseph series that I started last winter. Here is the rough depicting the slaughter of the innocence that I am excited to polish.
CLB
Okay, I know I have been saying that I have new pages coming for a while, and here I am saying it again.
I’m working on a big batch and then I will slowly release them over the next few weeks. I have issue 2 pages 4-11 penciled and I plan to start uploading again July 25.
Read the comic for free here! (best on mobile)
WATCH: C-SPAN
I’m on TV! Tomorrow, July 12th, at 2 PM on C-SPAN 2. This is the Lecture and Q/A That was filmed at the Kansas City Public Library during the Hope Never to See It book tour.
You can watch it HERE
Hope Never to See it is on sale on amazon, Buy the book here!
LISTEN: Caro Emerald
Emerald has a 1940’s Bebop sound with modern jazz. Some favorites are That Man and Dr. Wanna Do
READ: The Long Walk
Since the movie is coming out, I decided to listen to The Long Walk on audiobook. It was fantastic. I’m curious how they will handle the ending in the movie, as it could go several different ways visually. The book is a bit abrupt, but it is fitting; a movie might need more denouement.
PLAY: Catan Dice
Catan is a classic in the board game world. It is also usually at the center of arguments and frustration over strategy games where you sabotage your opponents and often lose before the game is over. (This is a rant I want to flesh out at some point)
As a result, my wife will not play Catan with me; however, she will play Catan Dice.
I like the dice game because it is faster and a nice balance of strategy and luck. You also are playing on your own “board” and so sabatoge is not an element of this game.
Sigh.
I have fallen out of my writing schedule, and so I am writing this minutes before sending out an already late newsletter. Therefore, I will leave this section mostly empty rather than rapidly writing an ill-conceived rant.
This is meant to be a rebuke to me and an inspiration to prioritize my writing as I have previously.
Thanks for your patience.
Cheers,
&
